Blackcurrant Delight with Bright Acidity

Tropical fruit, Cassis, Juicy

Though coffee cultivation in Kenya began relatively late, the sector has established and upheld an impressive reputation for high quality, meticulous preparation, and exceptional flavors. The Giakanja washing station in Nyeri County, owned and managed by the Giakanja Farmers' Cooperative Society (FCS), exemplifies this tradition.

Giakanja's farmers cultivate coffee on small farms situated between the southern slopes of the picturesque Mount Kenya and the foothills of the Aberdare Mountains. These farms, averaging 250 to 350 trees each, predominantly grow SL28, SL34, Batian, and Ruiru 11 varieties. The latter two, being relatively new, offer advantages such as greater disease resistance and quicker harvest times, maturing in just two years.

The coffee from the late 2023 harvest reveals delightful notes of blackcurrant and rosehip, combined with a persistent and bright acidity. This makes it an excellent choice for a filter coffee or a lively espresso, showcasing the finest qualities of Kenyan coffee.
