For a clean and aromatic coffee

This paper filter is tailor-made for light roasted specialty coffee beans.

The inner surface is smooth without crepe, and the surface area to which the coffee powder adheres is reduced. Fruity fragrance can be extracted with the unique flow rate created by the inner smooth surface, and the crepe outer surface allows the coffee to flow smoothly through the filter paper to the server. The high density of the filter paper also removes impurities and prevents grounds getting through, ensuring a clean and aromatic coffee.

The paper filter helps perfectly extract the flavour of light roasted coffee beans. With the help of the density, thickness, and wrinkle of the filter paper, a unique flavour is extracted, and a cup of bright and aromatic coffee is ready to be tasted.

It is made from artificially planted forest areas. Made by 100% natural wood pulp raw material, without adding any fluorescent substance.

Important Updates:

Since 2024, we have undertaken a gradual process of repackaging the CAFEC Roasting Level Paper Filter to establish more precise distinctions. This renaming strategy now hinges on the objective physical characteristic of thickness (TH), rather than prescribing usage with specific preferred coffee roasting levels. It's important to acknowledge that terminology variances between Japan and the European market may exist. Importantly, these modifications do not impact any characteristics or performance of the paper filter itself.

We maintain the belief that different filters can effectively complement various roasting levels of coffee beans, facilitating the discovery of the optimal paper filter for each unique coffee bean type.

Engineering Precision in Filter Coffee Since the Beginning

CAFEC Japan, a brand by Sanyo Sangyo Co., Ltd. (est. 1973), pioneered cone-shaped paper filters for the V60 dripper—an innovation that helped shape modern pour-over coffee. Backed by decades of technical development and expertise in filter paper production, CAFEC brings together material science, extraction theory, and precise manufacturing to support brewers seeking clarity, consistency, complexity, and control.

    Paper Filters Designed for Extraction

CAFEC is best known for its advanced filter paper technology. Their flagship product, the Abaca Paper Filter, combines traditional pulp with Abaca (Manila hemp)—a naturally strong, sustainable fiber. The result is a high-flow, low-resistance filter that improves extraction consistency while maintaining clarity in the final cup. Abaca filters are biodegradable, durable, and produced through an environmentally responsible process that minimises chemical use and water consumption.

Beyond Abaca, CAFEC offers a series of roast-specific filters, each calibrated for different flow rates and thicknesses to optimise extraction across light, medium, and dark roasts. This targeted design reflects their engineering-driven approach to brewing.

    Innovative Brewing Tools

CAFEC’s brewing equipment is developed with a focus on functionality, thermal performance, and extraction control. Key products include Flower Dripper, designed for consistent flow and even saturation; the Deep 27 Dripper, featuring a steeper angle to increase brew depth and enhance extraction dynamics; and the Oval Dripper, engineered for improved temperature stability and a more uniform coffee bed.

Each brewer is the result of research-driven design and manufactured to meet the standards of professionals seeking precision and repeatability.

    Trusted Around the Globe

CAFEC’s paper filters are trusted by specialty cafés, competition-level brewers, and discerning home users worldwide. Their ongoing investment in research and development, combined with a commitment to manufacturing excellence, positions them as a leading innovator in the field of hand-brewing technology.

Cafec filters give a very nice clean cup when using them with an Origami dripper. No discernible aftertaste.

    Great filters for lighter roasts

My daily driver. I'm not entirely sure how they do it, but they completely banish bitter, over-extracted flavours, even if you really try to over-extract!
